PS4 Pro officially announced: Sony confirms PS4 NEO release date and price

SONY officially unveils the PS4 Pro, confirming that it will support 4K resolution when it launches later this year.

Sony has officially announced the PS4 Pro, which will complement the existing PS4.

Originally referred to as the PS4 NEO, Sony's Andrew House said that there was still a large audience that was waiting to buy into the PS4 experience, which is where the Pro comes in.

The PS4 Pro will support 4K gaming, transforming the likes of Rise of the Tomb Raider, Spider-Man and Watch Dogs 2.

PlayStation architect Mark Cerny said that PS4 Pro will support HDR (high dynamic range) technology, which will improve the visual quality of games.

Image quality is said to be improved because HDR allows for more colours on screen.

Cerny also said that users don't need a 4K TV to experience the benefits of the PS4 Pro, because the console will recognise the quality of your TV.

Warner Bros, for example, will improve the quality of Shadow of Mordor, patching it to play better on the new console. Sony refers to this as forward grading. Over half a dozen Sony exclusives will be patched, as well as countless third-party games.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare will also take advantage of the PS4 Pro on day-one, as well as Mass Effect: Andromeda.

A new Netflix app will also be available on PS4 Pro at launch, with multiple shows and films supporting 4K. 4K YouTube support has also been announced.

The PS4 Pro will have a November 10 release date, and will be priced at $399.

Sony has also revealed that the original PS4 has sold more than 40 million units worldwide.
